A lab mindset, applied to security.
IQL Advisory is the cybersecurity advisory practice of Inquisitive Llama Labs, a veteran-owned firm based in Alexandria, Virginia.
You can’t throw a flat image onto a complex surface.
Inquisitive Llama Labs began as a creative technology lab, working at the intersection of community, creativity, and technology. One of its crafts is projection mapping: turning buildings, sculptures, and irregular objects into surfaces for light and story.
Projection mapping teaches a lesson that applies directly to security. Every face, edge, and angle has to be mapped first, or the picture breaks.
Cybersecurity is the same. Organizations aren’t flat. A framework applied flat across a complex surface leaves gaps at every edge.
Their risk spans adversaries, budgets, authority, behavior, and technology at once. IQL Advisory brings the lab’s habits to security: curiosity before conclusions, creative problem solving, and the discipline to map the whole surface before recommending anything. Behind that sits senior executive experience earned where the stakes were highest.
The llama? It’s inquisitive by nature, a little unexpected, and very hard to fool.
Tested by adversaries, auditors, and oversight, at the same time.
IQL Advisory’s work is grounded in experience across some of the most demanding security environments there are.
- Enterprise security leadership: executive risk authority, program rebuilds, and security budgets managed to measurable outcomes
- Adversary operations and investigations: years of cyber operations, digital forensics, and investigations, so we know how attackers actually work
- Technology and data leadership: enterprise data governance, Zero Trust, AI governance, and large technology-portfolio oversight
- International coalition work: threat and vulnerability collaboration with allied partners
- Military intelligence: where the habit of seeing what others miss began
We bring that standard to every client, federal or commercial.

A principal-led firm.
Every engagement is led personally by our founder, Timothy S. Goodwin, a senior cybersecurity executive whose career spans enterprise CISO leadership, FBI cyber operations, and U.S. Marine Corps intelligence.
That means you work directly with the person whose judgment you’re hiring. Nothing is delegated to a junior team.
